Since March 2020, attempts to avert the global health crisis have seen nationwide school closures in 194 countries, including 13 out of the 14 countries Street Child operates in, depriving nearly 1.6 billion learners across the globe of an education [UNESCO, 2020]. However, as schools this week have reopened their doors and students have returned to their friends, teachers and routines here in the UK, for many of the children living in the countries in which Street Child operates this is not the case.
